Blockwell / BlockSite alternative

BLOCKSITE ALTERNATIVE · CHECKED 30 OCTOBER 2026

A free BlockSite alternative with no site limit

If BlockSite asked you to upgrade after three sites, or to agree to share browsing data before it would work, Blockwell is a smaller, free Chrome website blocker that does the core job without either.

Why people look for a BlockSite alternative

BlockSite is popular and well rated: 4.5★ from about 32,500 ratings on the Chrome Web Store. The complaints in recent reviews are about the deal, not the blocking:

None of that makes BlockSite a bad product. It does more than Blockwell in some areas (see below). But if you only want to block distracting websites for free, you shouldn’t have to trade data or pay to add a fourth site.

When BlockSite is the better choice

Pick BlockSite if you need to block apps on your phone as well as websites, want one list synced across devices, or need password protection so someone else (a parent, say) controls the settings. Blockwell is Chrome-only and is built for people blocking their own distractions.

Moving from BlockSite to Blockwell in two minutes

  1. Open BlockSite and copy the sites on your block list somewhere.
  2. Install Blockwell from the Chrome Web Store.
  3. Use a preset (social, video, Shorts & Reels, news, shopping) or paste your sites in. There is no limit.
  4. Optional: set a schedule such as weekdays 9:00–17:30, then remove BlockSite so two blockers don’t fight.

Questions

Is Blockwell really free with unlimited sites?

Yes. Unlimited sites, path blocking, one schedule, the focus timer and backups are free. Pro (€9 a year or €29 once) adds Strict mode, daily time limits, allowlist mode and keyword blocking.

Does Blockwell collect my browsing history?

No. It has no analytics, and your block list stays in your browser. The only network request is a Pro licence check with an anonymous random ID.

Can I block YouTube Shorts but keep YouTube?

Yes. Add youtube.com/shorts as a path block, or use the Shorts & Reels preset. See how to block YouTube Shorts.

Does Blockwell work on my phone?

No. Blockwell is a Chrome extension for desktop. If you need phone app blocking, BlockSite or a phone focus mode is a better fit.
