Blockwell / Block Reddit

GUIDE · UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

How to block Reddit on Chrome

Reddit is useful for answers and terrible for “just five minutes”. You can block all of it, block only the endless feeds and keep the subreddits you need, or allow yourself a fixed amount of time each day. Here’s each way.

Add Blockwell to Chrome, freeSee all features

Option 1: block all of Reddit (free)

  1. Install Blockwell from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Open reddit.com, click the Blockwell icon and choose Block this site. Or type reddit.com into your block list.
  3. Blocking reddit.com also covers www.reddit.com and old.reddit.com.
  4. Open chrome://extensions, click Details under Blockwell and turn on Allow in Incognito, or a private window gets around it.

Option 2: block the feeds, keep the answers (free)

Most people don’t lose an hour to a search result. They lose it to the front page. Block just the endless feeds with path blocks:

Threads you reach from Google still open, so you keep the useful part of Reddit. Reddit can switch pages without a full reload, so if r/all still opens from a link inside Reddit, choose Use Blockwell’s page for reddit.com when Blockwell asks. That grants access to Reddit only, not every site.

Option 3: a daily Reddit allowance (Pro)

If a hard block feels too strict, Blockwell Pro lets you set a daily time limit per site, such as 15 minutes of reddit.com. When the time is used up, Reddit is blocked until tomorrow. Pro also has Strict mode, which locks your blocks for an hour, a day or a week so you can’t undo them in a weak moment. Pro is €9 a year or €29 once.

Option 4: the hosts file (no extension)

Add 0.0.0.0 reddit.com and 0.0.0.0 www.reddit.com to your computer’s hosts file. It blocks Reddit in every browser, but you can’t block only r/all and there’s no schedule or time limit. Full steps are in how to block websites on Chrome.

What about the Reddit app?

Chrome extensions don’t run on phones. Use Screen Time on iPhone or Digital Wellbeing on Android to put a daily limit on the Reddit app.

Questions

Can I block Reddit but still read threads from Google?

Does blocking reddit.com also block old.reddit.com?

Yes. A site block in Blockwell covers its subdomains, including www and old.

Is blocking Reddit free?

Yes. Blocking the whole site or just some sections is in Blockwell’s free version, with no site limit.
